Local government prides itself on many things. Aside from being a bastion of democracy and a sector the most vulnerable can turn to for help, local government has a reputation for getting things done and, more often than not, rising to the challenge whenever it is most needed.
This ‘can do' attitude and resilience has been displayed in abundance in recent weeks with many councils working with partners around the clock in response to severe and persistent flooding following storms Ciara, Dennis and Jorge. On behalf of Solace, my sympathies go out to all of those affected by the flooding, while I have nothing but praise for local government colleagues who have provided strong leadership and swift action in what has been extremely challenging circumstances.
