A busy summer through to autumn of future funding consultations lies ahead

The outmoded system of local government financing means huge disparities between councils’ funding levels continue and the sector faces a real medium-term period of uncertainty that has been knocking on the door for years, says Tracy Bingham.

Happy New (financial) Year! We can meet in groups of six again, we've seen record high temperatures for March and local government finance teams have turned their attention to closing down the historical year that has just passed.

Now we've fully kicked off on this national roadmap journey, I hope our fatigued teams get a chance to rejuvenate. A full year of juggling additional reporting, new Delta returns, delayed statutory reporting, business grants (and the many new responsibilities they bring each month) with no let up on the cyclical stuff, sees our teams about to embark on another trip around the sun without having had some proper respite!
