Cable says UK cities 'underperform'

Vince Cable took a potshot at UK cities today when he claimed they were less productive than the rest of the economy.

Business secretary Vince Cable took a potshot at UK cities today when he claimed they were less productive than the rest of the economy because of their deprivation.

In the week that the Prime Minister launched a referendum campaign to get more directly-elected city mayors in part to boost inward investment Mr Cable told a seminar today: 'Most economic activity takes place in cities but the UK is the only economy where cities are less productive than the rest of the economy.
