Calculating the complex equation of local elections

If fear of failure at the local elections prompts action on the cost of living crisis, perhaps it is no bad thing – even if it doesn’t directly hand cash back to councils, says Heather Jameson.

There is just one week to go until voters go to the polls across a series of councils and political pundits everywhere are trying to second guess what might happen – and what it all means.

Let's start with the big caveat: political predictions used to be reasonably straightforward; now, endless hours of crystal ball gazing are more likely to result in eye strain than give you a clear picture of the outcome of future elections.
