Calls for limits on London mayor

The chairman of London Councils has called on the Government to limit the planning powers of the mayor.

Merrick Cockell  said: ‘We want guarantees that if the mayor takes over an application the decision-making process is as transparent as the operation of borough planning committees.' But Ken Livingstone claimed the London Councils response was a ‘u-turn' and that they were now in favour of giving him more planning powers.
