Calls for PM to meet mayors

The Government has refused to say whether David Cameron will revisit his promise to chair a cabinet of directly-elected mayors when they come to power.

The Government has refused to say whether David Cameron will revisit his promise to chair a cabinet of directly-elected mayors when they come to power.

In 2012, when the Government forced the UK's biggest cities to hold referendums on directly-elected mayors, the prime minister vowed to convene a regular ‘cabinet of mayors,' which he would chair.
