Cameron pledges Cabinet of elected mayors

Prime minister David Cameron today pledged to set up a Cabinet of directly-elected mayors and chair its first meeting.

Prime Minister David Cameron today pledged to set up a Cabinet of directly-elected mayors and chair its first meeting as he launched the referendum campaign for city mayors in a high profile event at No 10.

At a reception attended by private, public and third sector enthusiasts of city mayors from across 11 English cities Mr Cameron said:'A new generation of mayors will enrich our political culture as a whole and I'm 100% enthusiastic about this agenda.
