‘All political lives end in failure' remarked Enoch Powell once, a phrase which David Cameron apparently recalled on the night of the referendum when he knew his reckless gamble to placate his Eurosceptic backbenchers had failed.
He has doubtless spent the summer ruminating over the hubris that led to his fateful referendum decision. He will also be planning his legacy because Cameron will not want to go down in history only as the Prime Minister who led us out of the EU and into splendid isolation. But what exactly is his legacy?
