A senior Conservative backbencher has warned the Government's likely adoption of the ‘Dilnot funding cap' would still leave the elderly with huge bills to pay.

In a report for the centre-right think-tank, Centre for Policy Studies, the Conservative MP John Redwood said the proposal by economist Andrew Dilnot to limit the costs of an individual's social care to £35,000 a year would cost the taxpayer at least £1.7bn a year, and still leave people facing significant bills.
