Capital's growth overshadows other UK cities

The economic gap between London and other cities has widened, the Centre for Cities annual health-check has warned.

The economic gap between London and other cities has widened, raising concerns that other parts of the country are failing to realise their economic potential, the Centre for Cities has today warned.

The influential think-tank's Cities Outlook 2014 report finds London remains the country's dominant economic powerhouse and accounted for 80% of jobs growth in the private sector between 2010 and 2012.

Research also showed London has seen strong growth in public sector jobs, with every government job created in the capital coming at the expense of two lost in other cities across the country.
