Local authorities look set to pay millions this year on a new ‘carbon tax' under the Government's carbon reduction commitment (CRC).

The CRC is a mandatory scheme for all councils, designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide across public and private organisations. Each year, councils must pay for their ‘carbon allowance' after submitting carbon audits.
