The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has told Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to improve safety standards or face legal action. Inspectors found that the trust was failing to meet four key standards at Basildon Hospital, and have demanded swift action.

The trust has faced a string of serious incidents at the hospital, including the deaths of two patients. The inspectors said they were most concerned about nursing care planning and discharge practices.
