When care cannot cope

Care provider Allied Healthcare may have found a buyer for its business, but Glen Garrod warns pre-Christmas uncertainty may lead some staff to walk away and some councils could transfer their contracts to other providers or bring them ‘in-house’

Austerity continues unabated for people needing adult social care as it does for local government in general.

Repeated surveys by the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) – and supported by separate studies from the National Audit Office – show that since 2010, adult social care has generated some £7bn in savings as part of the national austerity programme.
