Care's golden opportunity after the polls

Anna Hemmings says ADASS will concentrate on working with the new Government to stabilise adult social care through a focus on three key issues.

Four out of five of us will need social care during our lifetime, so in an election campaign dominated by how politicians will improve public services, you would expect it to be a hotly debated topic. Frustratingly, so far, this hasn't been the case.

Despite the fact social care is in urgent need of reform, it's still not a vote winner and seen as potentially politically toxic after Theresa May had to U-turn on her policies in 2017. So, the Lib Dems have shown courage by making it front and centre of their campaign, with a deeply personal film of their leader Ed Davey's story of caring for his mother and son.
