Carmarthenshire defiant on chief's libel indemnity

Carmarthenshire councillors have been asked to back the council’s decision to indemnify chief executive Mark James in a libel case and reject the judgment of Welsh auditors that this course of action was unlawful.

Carmarthenshire councillors have been asked to back the council's decision to indemnify chief executive Mark James in a libel case and reject the judgment of Welsh auditors that this course of action was unlawful.

A meeting of full council to be held later today will be asked to consider a full report into the legal backing Carmarthenshire gave to Mr Jones in making a libel counterclaim against local blogger Jacqui Thompson.

Following a six day trial last year, the blogger's action against the council was thrown out in its entirety.
