The case for a budget-setting collective

Michael Hudson looks ahead at planning for 2024-25 budget-setting, and he says we need to do this as a collective and collaborative sector 'working with DLUHC to promote to them and other Government departments how we are leaders of place'.

As we set our budgets and council tax, my thoughts turn to 2024-25 and beyond.

The additional money for local government was welcome for 2023-24, and the policy statement the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) issued just before the provisional settlement gave some steer for 2024-25, but there is still a degree of uncertainty.
