We are making the case to Honda to keep investment in Swindon

Council leader David Renard is part of a taskforce set up after Honda's announcement that it plans to shut the local plant. He says the key priority must be to make the case that investment in vehicles of the future is best done in Swindon.

To say last month's announcement by Honda that it plans to close its plant in Swindon in 2021 came as both a big shock and disappointment, is something of an understatement.

The company has been a highly respected and valued employer in this area for over thirty years, employing some 3,500 people. Thousands more workers in the supply chain and wider business community also stand to be affected. Honda is currently consulting its workforce on the plan before a final decision is taken.
