Too often, recruitment specifications are narrowly focused on local government achievements, says Graeme McDonald. 'To attract and retain talent we need the landing into the sector to be far softer, especially for those coming into senior roles.'.

The jobs pages of The MJ are expanding. Turnover in senior jobs seems higher than at any time in recent memory.

Councils are increasingly recognising they are in a battle for talent. For each job there is a winning council but the sector as a whole is losing.
