Confidence in councils' abilities to deliver services in the next financial year is rapidly falling, a poll of chief financial officers (CFOs) has revealed.
A survey of 237 local authorities by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) found almost half of council CFOs were less confident than they were a year ago in their ability to deliver services in 2016/17, rising from 41% for 2015/16 and 27% for 2014/15.
