A Surrey councillor will act as a direct link between the Government and fire and rescue services nationally, following a key appointment.

Kay Hammond, Surrey CC's cabinet member for community safety, has been appointed chairman of the Local Government Association's (LGA) fire services management committee. The role puts her at the heart of national decision-making as the representative of the 46 fire and rescue services across the country, and the point of contact for fire minister, Brandon Lewis.
