Challenge made to DCLG business rates figures

Figures released by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) wildly over-estimated the increase in business rates kept by London’s councils, it has been claimed.

Figures released by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) wildly over-estimated the increase in business rates kept by London's councils, it has been claimed.

The DCLG issued figures which claimed devolving business rates to councils helped generate £11bn in revenue in 2014-15, £266.9m of which was retained by local government – up 10% on the previous year.
