The changing landscape for local government: preparing for 2025

Councils must adapt to rapid developments in society and technology - compounded by an ageing population and further financial constraint - forging a radically different public service landscape in the next decade, explains Paul Bradbury.

The government has set out its ambition to balance the nation's books by reducing public sector costs by approximately £40bn over the next five years.

As central government works towards paying off its deficit, the next decade promises to be a complex and potentially challenging one for local authorities with tough demands being fed down from the top.
