A range of recent reports show a ‘deeply alarming' rise in young people struck down by anxiety.
The Prince's Trust's UK-wide survey of 16-to-25-year-olds reveals 41% are more anxious than a year ago. The NSPCC reports that its Childline service has seen a 35% rise in calls about anxiety in just 12 months. Recent NHS data shows the number of young patients being treated for mental health-related problems has risen by 42% in a year. The Local Government Association's (LGA) Best Start in Life report worries that ‘substantial numbers' of children are suffering with anxiety and depression.
