Charities can't do everything

Responding to the scale of the crisis hitting Britain raises difficult issues for charities – and even when the sector is solvent, there is a limit to what they can do, says Dan Corry.

Britain is in crisis. It is hard to describe it in any other way.

The NHS is falling apart in front of our eyes, partly due to the stresses within social care which is itself a major crisis for so many families. Our railways were already pretty bad before the strikes, now they are a shambles.
