Charities reject calls for cap on shop sites

The Charity Retail Association dismisses suggestion that councils should limit the number of high street charity shops.

The Charity Retail Association (CRA) has dismissed a suggestion by government adviser, Mary Portas, that councils should limit the number of high street charity shops – and warned it would reduce income while grant funding was being slashed.

Ms Portas recently told members of the all party parliamentary group on town centres that local authorities should be given powers to cap the number of charity shops claiming exemption from business rates.
