Charities 'need stronger role' to support services

Voluntary sector chiefs have written to the Treasury demanding a stronger role in commissioning and designing local services – ahead of December's Autumn Statement.

In a recent letter sent to Sajid Javid, economic secretary to the Treasury, the leaders of 14 national charities urge ministers to consider the ‘significant contribution' made by the third sector to the national economy – in employing more than 765,000 people and enjoying annual revenues worth £36.7bn.
