Charities win fight over city plan to slash funds

Derby City Council extends funding to 16 charities, warning cost-cutting decommissioning didn't follow statutory guidance.

Derby City Council has extended funding to 16 charities, after being warned it failed to follow statutory guidance when decommissioning services in a bid to save £1.1m.

Capacity-building group, Community Action Derby, lobbied the council, which had previously voted to cut its voluntary grants budget from £2.8m to £1.7m, after the CLG issued Best value guidance in September.
