A leading public sector insurer has reported swindlers attempted to cheat local authorities through insurance scams.

Swindlers attempted to cheat local authorities through insurance scams on more than 7,000 occasions over the last five years, and fraudulent claims are on the increase, a leading public sector insurer has reported.

False claims totalling more than £82m – including those for casualty and personal injury, property and motor incidents –have been detected since 2008, exclusive data released by Zurich Municipal has revealed.
