Chess is cool for schools in Newham

The Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, joined more than 500 local schoolchildren to launch a scheme to get every school child in Newham playing chess.

The Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales and British Champion Grandmaster Gawain Jones, joined more than 500 local schoolchildren to launch a scheme to get every school child in Newham LBC playing chess.

The scheme will bring chess sets and lessons to 14 Newham Schools, with the aim of expanding to all 64 primary schools in the borough by 2015.
