Ex-chief dies, 73

Former chief executive of  Strathclyde Regional Council, Sir Robert Calderwood, passed away last month aged 73.

Sir Robert, who was knighted in 1990, held a string of top local authority posts in Salford, Bolton and Manchester before moving back to his native Scotland.
