John Wood, currently director, environment and commercial services and deputy chief executive at Hertfordshire CC, has been chosen to become the county council's next chief executive and head of paid service.

He was recommended for the post after a thorough internal recruitment process which included psychometric assessments, test scenarios and an interview by the cross-party employment committee, which came to a unanimous decision.
