Chief executive of Newcastle City Council to leave

The chief executive of Newcastle City Council will leave by mutual consent.

Chief executive of Newcastle City Council, Barry Rowland, will leave the authority at the end of August by mutual agreement, after 33 years of service.

Mr Rowland joined the council as a management trainee in 1979, and 30 years later, was appointed as chief executive. He has overseen a council-wide transformation programme which has delivered savings of more than £222m over the last five years.
