The Planning Inspectorate has announced that Peter Burley, chief planning inspector, is to retire at the end of September 2013.

Mr Burley has worked for the Planning Inspectorate for 24 years and was the inspectorate's director for Wales prior to taking up his current role as chief planning inspector in April 2012.
