Rochdale MBC's response to reports of child sexual abuse was ‘careless' and ‘wholly inadequate' between the 1960s and 1990s, a damning review by an independent inquiry has found.

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA), chaired by Professor Alexis Jay, concluded the former leader of Rochdale, Richard Farnell, ‘lied' to the inquiry and added council officers showed no urgency in dealing with the abuse.
