Nobody likes paying tax. But it is a price we pay for the services and support we all want to have. And when the country faces a major deficit, the stark choice is between raising taxes or cutting spending. Or is it?

The Government has just produced figures showing the ‘tax gap' to be £35bn – the gap being the difference between what should be paid and what is paid.
