CIPFA backs Treasury spending plan

The Chartered Institute for Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) has approved tough new controls over government expenditure.

CIPFA's backing follows yesterday's announcement by Danny Alexander, chief secretary to the Treasury, urging Whitehall departments to identify around 5% of their resource budget for possible re-prioritisation should new cost pressures emerge or new policies have to be funded.
