Local areas must be given greater powers to direct housing policy to help unlock economic growth, the Centre for Cities think tank has reported.

According to Cities Outlook 2013, the sixth annual survey into urban growth, while some areas would benefit from investment to kick-start house-building, other localities should spend money improving existing housing stock.
