City and county clash over reorganisation plans

Staffordshire CC has teed up a clash with Stoke-on-Trent City Council by proposing a county unitary covering a population of 876,000.

Staffordshire CC has teed up a clash with Stoke-on-Trent City Council by proposing a county unitary covering a population of 876,000.

The city council, which is already a unitary authority, had proposed joining with Newcastle-under-Lyme BC and Staffordshire Moorlands to create a North Staffordshire unitary, which would have a population of about 500,000.
