A call for clarity on Oflog

The Office for Local Government has sparked a flurry of passionate views within the sector. Stuart Hoddinott calls for clarity over how it will balance a more interventionist approach alongside a role as a ‘good faith convenor’ of councils.

There are real problems Oflog can solve.

The founding insight behind it – that local government data can be difficult to find, understand and compare – is one with merit. Local government datasets are often scattered across multiple departments, published inconsistently by local authorities themselves, or presented in varying formats. Even when data is available, it is often difficult to understand and use to evaluate local authority performance.
