Clark calls on councils to sell off land

Communities secretary Greg Clark has called on councils to get rid of surplus land in order to boost the number of new homes.

Communities secretary Greg Clark has called on councils to get rid of surplus land in order to boost the number of new homes.

Speaking ahead of the first meeting of a dedicated housing taskforce this week, Mr Clark said Whitehall departments should dispose of surplus land and buildings, and called on local authorities to follow suit.

The Department for Communities and Local Government and the Homes and Communities Agency have already identified around 150 sites, which could be sold off.
