Clark points to reorganisation for sector

Former communities secretary Greg Clark has said local government reorganisation should follow the creation of combined authorities and will also be needed to address the sector’s financial pressures.

Former communities secretary Greg Clark has said local government reorganisation should follow the creation of combined authorities and will also be needed to address the sector's financial pressures.

He told The MJ's Future Forum Midlands event at the Welcombe Hotel near Stratford-upon-Avon that he felt unitarisation was likely to be needed following the creation of a ‘strategic layer' of combined authorities for the new bodies to be as ‘agile' as intended.
