Happy New Year to all The MJ's readers, may 2015 bring you health, happiness and… Perhaps prosperity is a little unlikely.

As ever, the year closed with the local government finance settlement. The settlement is becoming less about who gets what and more about how broken the local government finance system is. The answer is: very broken.
