Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg will today announce the establishment of three new garden cities containing at least 15,000 homes each.

At his monthly press conference, the deputy prime minister is set to issue a prospectus detailing bids from local authorities for new schemes aimed at tackling Britain's housing shortage.

Successful bids must have a strong commercial case, will need local support, full backing from councils as well as strong transport and infrastructure links.
