Newly published research by Experian has confirmed that many of the great cities of the north and midlands were transformed socially, demographically and economically in the decade between the national censuses of 2001 and 2011.

According to eight characteristics such as housing type and professional status, they are now among the most exciting places to live in the whole of England and Wales.
