Government negotiations with trade unions over public pension reforms will fail to deliver the long-term savings sought by ministers, according to experts from the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IfS).

A paper issued by the think tank today (31 January) calculates potential savings from higher pension ages and a switch to less generous inflation-tracking measures have been offset by higher accrual rates offered in recent talks.
