A commercial success

Leeds City Council and Sevenoaks DC shared the Commercialism in the Property Estate prize in The MJ’s Local Government Achievement Awards 2016.

Government grants are declining and soon local government will be funded almost exclusively on council tax and business rates. But the most commercial minded councils are finding innovative ways to generate fresh income streams.

Alongside wearing the Local Authority of the Year crown, Leeds City Council also claimed the prize for Commercialism in the Property Estate at The MJ's gala awards evening last June, alongside Sevenoaks DC.
