An influential group of MPs has heaped further criticism on the beleaguered Care Quality Commission (CQC), claiming the watchdog which reviews local authority homes has still not defined its core purpose.

A damning report published by the Commons' health select committee on 9 January, claims the quango has failed to establish public confidence in its work, despite several highly-critical reports over the last 18 months.
