Community budgets 'could work – but not everywhere'

A long-awaited report by accountancy giant Ernst & Young into the four ‘whole place' community budget pilots indicates the schemes' could succeed on a national scale – but warns that not all areas could achieve sizable cashable savings.

Last week, The MJ reported top-level findings from the report, which suggest central and local government combined could save up to £22bn over five years by using community budget-style methods of financing and running public services.
