Community resilience: preventing the breakdown

Governments must change the post-pandemic narrative to avoid community breakdown, says a public health expert. Ann McGauran reports.

A prescient community resilience study carried out before COVID-19 struck explored a range of extreme events. These included climate change-related flooding, economic shocks like Brexit – and even pandemics.

But one of the study's collaborators, public health expert Dr Tony Robertson warns the lessons learned are mostly being ignored in the current political discussion around coronavirus, leading to a risk of community breakdown.
