A decade ago the Queen spoke of her annus horribilis: ten years on I could well use the same term for Liberal Democrats in local government – but then 2011 was pretty bad too!

In 2012 we lost many councillors because of the unpopularity of the government – bad news for them, bad news for the party but most importantly bad news for the communities they served so well.
